HISTORY

The history of the Botany Department dates back to the year 1952, when the study of Bachelor of Science was introduced. Many students of this department have settled at Scientist & Professor in India and abroad. Former President of India Dr S Radhakrishnan, declared open the present Botany Block in 1952, when he was Vice-president. The Faculty members undertake research in Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology; Taxonomy, and Medicinal plant research; Clinical Microbiology. The Faculty has received several awards and Research grants from funding agencies like UGC and DST. The Department has so far published 50 research papers and 02 books.

I - Vision:
To Empower the students with the Knowledge, skills of Botany &Microbiology and Eco-friendly attitude in time with the changing global needs for pursuing Research or procuring employment in the allied areas, leading green life and to develop the department as the centre of excellence.


II – Mission:

  • To provide the finest opportunities and environment for teaching, learning and research in various areas of plant sciences.

  • Promote sustainable human development by ensuring the participation of almost all students in co-curricular & extra-curricular activities.

  • Increase the employability of the maximum number of students by arranging the campus interview.

    • To Introduce Restructured Programmers as per the needs of the students and society

  • To revise the curriculum in biannually collaborating with University Nominees through BOS

  • To promote the self employment of the students through various areas of plant sciences.

  • To organize various extension activities in the areas of plant sciences, environment and human values.

  • To develop the abilities of right kind of leadership amongst the students from rural area in all walks of life.

  • To transfer the knowledge and skills for fulfillment of changing needs/changing society.

  • To utilize  ICT and student centric methods in teaching learning process

  • To inculcate research attitude in the students through study projects/college level projects

  • To conduct Skill-oriented certificate courses to settle as Entrepreneurs

  • To organize eco-friendly initiatives through Eco- Club
