GEOLOGY DEPARTMENT

The department of Geology was established in the year 1966 with view to create awareness in public about the minerals, exploration and exploitation of minerals and ground water due to kadapa district consists of world famous barites deposits, Indian famous asbestos deposits, state famous limestone deposits and also number of minor minerals. This department posses 2400 Sq.Ft area consisting of two fully equipped laboratories with furniture. As per data available, during British rule in India, famous Geologist William King visited this cuddapah basin and did field work by horse, after his geological field work he concluded and said that "CUDDAPAH BASIN ROCK FORMATIONS ARE HAVING A PLENTY VALUABLE MINERALS, IF THESE MINERALS ARE EXPLOITED SYSTAMATICALLY THIS REGION WILL BECOME AS SECOND PARIS".

This region is geologically world famous i.e Cuddapah basic rock formation and mineral wealth. This world famous Cuddapah basin rock formations are having a plenty of mineral origin and a plenty of minerals are already exploiting and a serious research work is going on last two decades by Geological Society of India. The following minerals are exploiting from Cudapah basin rock formations. Barytes, Asbestos, Iron ore, Steatite, Fire clays.

The plenty of Lime Stone formations are available in this region, which is useful for cement, lime preparation. Recently uranium minerals and excavity in pulivendula region and also pullarine(Radio active minerals) found in OB Rock of Byrate formation i.e Black shale rocks. Continues research work is going to explore of new minerals from Cuddapah basic rock with this scope and importance Department of Higher Education, Andhra Pradesh started Geology combination Under Graduate course in B.Sc in this College.

Combinations :-

There are two groups with geology combination. The subjects offer with geology combinations are

1. Geology – Physics –Chemistry (English Medium )

2. Geology – Physics – Chemistry (Telugu Medium)
