Government College for Men (A) was established the Women Empowerment Cell in December 2011-2012. Women Empowerment Cell (WEC) is another active wing in the College. The college has established a Women Empowerment Cell in the College campus to empower girl students, to enhance understanding of issues related to women and to make the college campus a safe place for women students. The WEC has a Convener and all the Women Lecturers as its members. It looks in to the problems being face by the the women sudents in the college as it is a college of co-education.It has been successfully playing a proactive role towards sensitization of the girl students towards gender issues in order to provide congenial atmosphere in the collge campus. It has been continuously striving for achieving gender equality and to sensitize the student community regarding the issues of eve-teasing, violence against women, female feticide etc. It receives the complaints and the grievances of the women students and finds solutions to them. . The cell has been organizing group discussions, lectures and interactive sessions with experts in the relevant fields to motivate and create awareness among girl students. It seeks to empower women as decission makers and to achieve economic, social and gender justice. On International Women’s Day, every year the cell invites and felicitates eminent women from different walks of life to motivate and inspire the girl students. It also looks after the wellbeing of the girl students by providing all the amenities they require to continue their education in an amicable, inspiring atmosphere so as to become bold and healthy future citizens.
OBJECTIVES OR DUTIES OF WEC
To identify women with strong leadership qualities and to build their capacity.
To Promote a culture of respect and equality for female gender.
To create social awareness about the problems of women and in particular regarding gender discrimination.
To develop the self confidence of women.
To guide about Women Welfare Laws.
To creating awareness of their rights an duties.
To highlight the importance of health and hygiene.
To Provides a platform for women to share their experiences and views regarding their status in the society.
To suggest ways to improve and empower themselves.
Aiming at intellectual and social upliftmentof the female students, the cell stands for facilitating women’s empowerment through guest lectures, awareness programmes, counselling programmes and other welfare activities.
To provide needed facilities to girl students of the college.
To protect and safeguard the rights of girl students and to bring about growth and development and to empower them.
The Cell also addresses to their Grievances.
To develop multidisciplinary approach for the overall personality development.
To prevent sexual harassment and to promote general well-being of female students, teaching and non-teaching women staff of the College.
A separate WhatsApp was created for students and members to share their ideas and information.
